Perhaps one of the most important parts of any election campaign, is what you to do afterwards to thank those that helped out.
Standing for election, or even being a Councillor, is not something you get an awful lot of thanks for. Some of those that lost their seats this time round, have been serving their communities for decades. One Councillor in particular, represented his ward for 48 years!
So in Mid-May, Devon County Councillor, Rufus Gilbert and his wife Sandy, both active members of the Kingsbridge Branch, welcomed a small group of people to their house for an afternoon of drinks and conversation.
Invited were the Totnes Association campaign team, candidates that had stood locally, along with their partners, friends and children.
It was an opportunity to celebrate with those that had won - Cllr Penfold for Marldon & Littlehempston, Cllr Taylor for Charterlands and myself, Cllr Dennis for Salcombe & Thurlestone. It was also chance to reflect on all the hard work put in by first-time candidates Helen Baker for Kingsbridge, and James Heaven for Salcombe & Thurlestone.
Although the campaigning may carry on, it is essential to thank all those that were involved in the effort. What I have learnt over the last few weeks is that when it comes to local government, and local politics, you just cannot say thank you enough.
We couldn't run election campaigns without the support of our members, volunteers, family and friends. If you want to get involved and join our fun, and friendly team, please contact the office on 01803 866069 or email [email protected]
